Taking the road less travelled

Lower Zambezi Valley, Zambia

Every time I step foot in Mana Pools, it’s a unique experience for me. No visit is the same. It awakens a deep awe within my soul with it’s incredible scenic beauty and prolific wildlife. The park is flanked by the Zambezi River bringing rich floodplains and an abundance of wildlife. More often than not something incredible awaits around each corner.

Why I love it:

It’s a feast for the eyes with the blue-green of the winter thorns giving an incredible backdrop to each subject. Elephants for a moment act like they’re in the circus by going up onto their hindlegs to reach for juicy seed pods – far above their normal reach. The wooded forests and floodplains create an exquisite frame when shooting subjects, with dappled light – caused by the dust hanging in the air  – creates vivid sunsets and breathatking lighting. The ability to get down low and manouever around when on foot gives me the flexibility to create the shot I want.
